First Look at the First X-Men

Neal Adams and Christos Gage are bring the "First X-Men" a new comic from Marvel. Bleeding Cool reported this earlier, but now we have so info from the famed artist, Neal Adams:
“You guys probably know I was at one time associated with X-Men…then they canceled the book. I had great fondness for the original X-Men, had the time of my life, then they canceled it. At the beginning, Stan and Jack were experimenting. You had Professor X, bald and in a wheelchair. These strange kids already in costume. It seems to me like this was not the beginning of the story, but the middle. Of all the mutants on Earth, Professor X could easily pass as a human. Why would he want to get involved in this? Maybe all this was going on before Professor X was Professor X…when Professor X was a teenager. Maybe mutant kids were getting abused by the military, by the government. Somebody would have been looking out for them, but maybe that person came to Charles Xavier, realizing he couldn’t protect these kids. That was my pitch. Marvel was very generous to provide Christos Gage to me, who is an expert in all this stuff. He’s taking my pitch and turning it into scripts that are in my opinion groundbreaking.

It’s the X-Men before there were X-Men. How deeply is Wolverine entrenched in the X-Men? Why was this first team…maybe a failure? Lots of questions to answer. The natural instinct is that this is like the ‘X-Men: First Class’ movie, but it’s not. We didn’t mind stealing the Nazi Hunter version of Magneto though. There’s a character who calls himself Bombastic Aghast, but they call him Bomb. Wolverine saves him from a cave-in then gives him a leather jacket that fits like a tent. He looks ridiculous, but he thinks it’s his costume. Later, Wolverine buys him a jacket that fits, but he throws it back in his face. That jacket means so much to him and represents his relationship with Wolverine. That’s the origin of his costume… There will be early versions of the Sentinels. I did the giant ones, now I’m getting to do different one."
I don't know about this. I mean, Wolverine? Let's stop using him for Goddess' sake! And why do we need an early X-Men story? I feel like we have enough back stories, let's move forward.

Marvel Comics First Gay Wedding?

The first gay character in a major label may be getting married. Northstar, from Alpha Flight and X-Men, could be getting married to his gay partner, Kyle.

Newsarama reports:
Last week, Marvel teased a wedding coming up in June's Astonishing X-Men #51, and though it was left vague as to who would be walking down the aisle, prevalent speculation has targeted Northstar and his boyfriend, Kyle.

It makes sense — new Astonishing X-Men writer Marjorie Liu has established that Northstar will be part of the book's cast, and a same-sex marriage would show that Marvel is willing to take the same progressive step that Archie took recently, in marrying off Kevin Keller in their alternate future title Life with Archie.
This would be cute if Jean-Paul takes his man down the aisle.

Marvel Comics Presents Avengers vs X-Men

Here's a description from CBR:
On a story level, the focus of 2009's X-Men "Second Coming" crossover, Hope Summers, will once again be the center of attention in "Avengers Vs. X-Men," as the presumed host for the returning Phoenix Force. In fact, it's the threat of the returning Phoenix Force that will instigate the conflict in the first place, Alonso says. "The Phoenix Force is the spirit of destruction and rebirth. It razes worlds to create something new. It's bad news if you happen to be living on the world about to be razed. It's great news if you're what's going to be the outcome of that world."

Also taking center stage is the Scarlet Witch, who, in many ways, instigated this conflict years ago when she used her reality-altering powers to all but erase mutantkind from the planet. Bendis, who scripts her story in the series' prologue issue, told the newspaper,"She's been on a road of almost impossible-to-perceive redemption over the last few years and now is going to come face-to-face with the Avengers."
This could be fun.

  • The rift between Emma and Cyclops grows.
  • Hope/Jean are a big part of 2012.

  • Wolverine's son will continue to like men (Thank Hera)
  • The Scarlet Witch will also play a part in the X-Men universe.
  • Cyclops may die, someone else may carry on his ideas.
  • The re-numbering of Uncanny X-Men will represent the new purpose of the mutants.
  • Havok, Rachel and Lorna also play big parts in Schism.
  • Schism will shake EVERYTHING up for years.
  • Someone will die in X-Factor.

My Idea for the X-Men: First Class Sequel

There are talks about another possible sequel for X-Men: First Class. And if I could throw in a things, this would be my idea.
  • Fast forward a few years where will see Cyclops, Jean and Lorna (Polaris) into the team.  Alex/Havok and the Hank/Beast are still with Xavier.
  • Magneto could have his group (The Brotherhood) the Scarlet Witch, Mystique, Avalanche, Mastermind and Quicksilver.
  • The story could focus around Dr. Bolivar Trask who learns about mutants from stealing files from the government and S.H.E.I.L.D.
  • Trask becomes obsessed with mutants and begins to search for them. He joins up with Dr. Steven Lang and Nathan Milbury (Mr. Sinister) to create a supercomputer to track them down. Nathan goes along with this plan with very different and unknown reasons.
  • They draw the attention of Magneto and his Brotherhood. They don't take to kindly to Trask's intentions. So they threaten him and his crew to leave them alone. This encounter excites Steven Lang and he turns to his secret financial backer, Ned Buckman for advice. Ned is the new leader of the Hellfire Club.
  • Ned tells Steven that he has another plan "Project Master Mold" and they have to capture an alpha mutant known as, The Mimic, to understand the true power of the mutants.
  • Xavier and Magneto also learn of The Mimic and they try to recruit him.
  • Drama ensues and the two teams battle it out while trying to gain the trust of new mutant.
  • Then Steven and Bolivar unleash Master Mold with its tracking robots, the Sentinels.
  • The teams battle the Sentinels. The Mimic helps the teams but dies in battle.
  • Nathan/Mr. Sinister is also there and notices his past projects alive and well, Cyclops and Havok. He wants to take them back, but he leaves them alone. He doesn't think they're ready yet.
  • Magneto warns Xavier that a war is coming, this attack was just the beginning. Xavier agrees, but refuses to follow Mags' path.
This is my idea. It's not completely thought out but I would have fun with it.
