Why are Some Gays Hatin' on Anderson and Frank for Coming Out?

It is very interesting to hear a lot of negativity about Anderson Cooper and Frank Ocean coming out. For some reason, some gays feel that their coming out is divisive, too late or too much. But seriously, our views don't matter because it's none of our business.

Let me break this down for the haters:
  • This is THEIR coming out experience, not yours and don't try to make it so. This is not about you, so stop trying to put your views in their lives.
  • They don't own us anything, this is their lives.
  • Everyone's coming out experience is different. Why they came out now vs. then is again, their business. You can't be upset about someone's reasons for coming out. You should be happy about their decision to be open and honest.
  • This is their lives and they should live it the way they supposed to. You should do the same.
  • Why are they creating this hostile environment for newly out people. When folks come out, the last thing they need is judgement from the fam.
Let's try to be happy for these individuals and stop hatin'. It doesn't get anyone anywhere and it's a waste of time.

So let's just get along and move on.

Frank Ocean comes out in a Letter

The nets are a buzz about musician Frank Ocean coming out. Frank is known as a ghost writer for Beyonce, Justin Bieber and John Legend; and he has his own music as well.

In his latest album, Channel Orange, Frank seems to be 'outing' himself in the lyrics.

The Boombox reports:

"Frank has also opened up about his sexuality on the album, we think it's brave and admire him for being so honest and sharing such a personal aspect of his life through his music," Max said. "On the songs 'Bad Religion' 'Pink Matter and 'Forrest Gump' you can hear him sing about being in love and their are quite obvious words used like 'him' and not 'her.'

"In the world we live in now we can't see this being an issue or why it should be?" she added. "But we do commend him for not continuing a facade and conforming to what a Hip Hop so called rule book expects, we say live your life and be yourself."

Later tonight,  Frank released a letter that (kinda) confirms his coming out

Frenchie Davis Comes Out

Remember when American Idol was worth watching? I do, and this woman was one of the reasons why I watched.

Frenchie Davis was a powerful potential in season 2 of AI, but a stupid pic got her kicked off the show. Still, Frenchie kept truckin' through the industry. She's hitting several Pride events and working on some new music.

But that's not all, she also came out.
There’s also something else going on with Davis. She’s been dating a woman for the past year.
“I wasn’t out before the relationship, but I wasn’t in,” she says. “I dated men and women, though lesbians weren’t feeling the bisexual thing. Now I’m in love with a woman I think I can be with forever.”
That's great news, I hope her relationship works out. And I can't wait for some awesome new music from her.

Jim Parsons is Gay

I was really busy yesterday so I missed this bit of info. Jim Parsons, the star from the geek fave, "Big Bang Theory" has come out in a New York Times article.

Many have talked about Jim's sexuality in the past, but he kind of made it clear at the Golden Globes when he thanked his partner.

Here's more from NYT:
“The Normal Heart” resonated with him on a few levels: Mr. Parsons is gay and in a 10-year relationship, and working with an ensemble again onstage was like nourishment, he said. As the production was ending last summer, he heard that the Roundabout Theater Company was considering a revival of “Harvey” — initially with John C. Reilly under consideration for Elwood — and last November the play’s director, Scott Ellis, asked him and Ms. Hecht to do a private reading of the work in Los Angeles.

“Jim was solid in ‘The Normal Heart,’ ” Mr. Ellis said, “but his character didn’t really change in the journey of that play, so I wanted to see if Jim could take on a challenge and float a couple of feet off the ground, so to speak, in that magical way Elwood has. And in the reading he was just smart, smart, smart.”
This is good to see folks coming out and nation moving in the right direction. This has to continue.

Olympics Gymnast Hopeful Josh Dixon comes out

Gymnast Josh Dixon could be making history. Over the weekend he finished 2nd in the U.S. Men's Qualifier for the Olympics, tying in floor exercise and high bar.

The historic piece is he would be the first openly gay Olympic gymnast.

Josh tells Outsports that he started exploring his sexuality in his junior year and later dated another collegiate athlete. Then, he decided to come completely out to his teammates.
What was particularly cool to them was Josh’s willingness to share that very personal part of his life with them. Word spread quickly through the gymnastics world. “A lot of guys in the gymnastics community talk,” Dixon said.

When he arrived for training in Colorado Springs last winter, his suitemate asked Dixon if the rumors were true.

“Oh that’s cool,” was the response.

In fact, Dixon said he has not had a single negative response “in any way, shape or form.” If anything, the only homophobia he has encountered has been from within himself. He acknowledges he once felt internal pressure about being a gay man in what some label the “gay sport” of gymnastics. He didn’t want to fall into a stereotype. But he’s come to embrace it, and he says his sexual orientation now makes him stand out more at the elite level. While he stands out, he isn’t the only one. Dixon knows of at least three more still competing in college, and he says he is not the only elite-level American gymnast who is gay.
Hopefully, they are inspired by Josh to come out as well. I think their support of each other could strengthen their spirits.

Missouri State GOP Rep Zach Wyatt Comes Out

Rep. Zachary Wyatt took a bold step today by not only coming out against Missouri's “Don’t Say Gay” bill, but coming out of the closet.

Here's more:
Speaking in Hearing Room 5 at the State Capitol, Wyatt condemned what he called a “horrible bill” that would make illegal nearly all discussions on homosexuality in public schools, including conversations between students and school staff about their own sexuality.

Wyatt, who last week issued a statement addressing his concerns on the bill and related his experiences being bullied as a child, called on his fellow Republicans to join him in the fight against bullying and in removing HB2051 from consideration.

“Today I ask you to stand with me as a proud Republican, a proud veteran, and a proud gay man who wants to protect all kids, addressing bullying in our schools,” Wyatt said.
He also had more to say:
“I will not lie to myself anymore about my own sexuality. It has probably been the hardest thing to come to terms with. I have always ignored it. I didn’t even think about it or want to talk about it. I’ve not been immune to it. I hear the comments, usually snide ones, about me,” Wyatt said.

“I am not the first or last Republican to come out. I have just gotten tired of the bigotry being shown on both sides of the aisle on gay issues. Being gay has never been a Republican or Democrat issue, and it should never be.”
Good for you, Zach!

Keith Hamilton Cobb is Gay

I just learn this bit of great news from Son of Baldwin. One of the hottest men in the game is a family member, meaning he's gay.

Here's the scoop:

Relaxing backstage at the Red Bull Theater in New York City, actor Keith Hamilton Cobb is adamant; “I never denied I was Gay,” he says.

Possibly best known for the super macho Tyr Anasazi on the sci-fi series ‘Andromeda’, Cobb was blase. “I mean I’m nearly fifty, never was linked with a woman. The few ‘red carpet’ affairs I attended were set up by the studio; an obvious set up. This can’t be a surprised.”

Cobb first came to attention when he appeared in ‘All My Children,” a day time soap-opera.
Hopefully, we will see him in more gay roles and in higher quality gay movies too.
