Will Wonder Woman be introduced in 'Man of Steel'?

Hot Comic news/rumor! Over at Comic Book Movie, they talk about a possible cameo in the Man of Steel movie.

The guest star could be... Wonder Woman!

Here's the scoop:
According to our source part of WB's plan is to use Man Of Steel and drop hints that Superman is in a shared universe with his DC counterparts. The hints will be very subtle such as character mentions. The one character that DC is really wanting to reference is Wonder Woman. The source was unclear on if this would be to set up a solo movie for the Amazon Princess or to the Justice League, but with the info that was just posted it seems more likely to be the JLA.
Well, well, well! Now, before I got excited, I was informed to check out another blog called, We Got This Covered, that really dug into the story. This is what they got:
In thinking this, I spoke to one of our sources that has close ties to the project and he confirmed to me that CBM is correct in that the studio is trying to find a way to reference Wonder Woman. But, our source also disputes CBM on the fact that there won’t be a cameo. From what I’m hearing, the studio isn’t opposed to doing a cameo and if the timing works out (ie: if they find a Wonder Woman and announce the casting on time), then they may be able to pull it off. So don’t rule it out just yet.
Right now though, it’s all up in the air. Nothing is concrete. Sources are never 100% and for all we know Man Of Steel may land in theatres without any references at all.
This is true. This could go unknown until the movie is out. Then we all can be super-surprised!

The Cheetah returns in the New 52

The Cheetah is one of Wonder Woman's greatest foes and so far she's been absent from the New 52 universe.

However, all of that changes as she comes back hard! DC Comics blog reports:
This fall, JUSTICE LEAGUE #13 will introduce a legendary villain to DC COMICS-THE NEW 52: The Cheetah. The first of a two-issue chapter, the story comes to you from the creative team of writer Geoff Johns and guest artist Tony S. Daniel.

"I'm thrilled and honored to again work with Geoff Johns on this JUSTICE LEAGUE arc,” Daniel told THE SOURCE. “It's going to be a lot of fun and I can't wait to work on my favorite characters. JUSTICE LEAGUE is the first book I pull because of the big stories and the great Jim Lee art inside. I'm very happy that I get a chance to focus all my energy on making my best artwork for Geoff and the fans of JUSTICE LEAGUE."

“Tony and I will be re-introducing one of DC's iconic villains - the Cheetah - and uncovering her mysterious connection to Wonder Woman and the Justice League,” added Johns. “For me, the Cheetah is up there with Black Manta, Sinestro and Captain Cold as one of the most iconic villains in the DC Universe, and she'll become a major villainous force in 2012 and beyond. The fallout from JUSTICE LEAGUE #12 starts here as we head towards next year's TRINITY WAR.”
This looks good and I hope they really beef up the Cheetah.

Why I'm not excited about the Wonder Woman screenwriter

This week, we learned there's a screenwriter for Wonder Woman... and that writer was the one that gave us the mess known as Green Lantern.

The GL flick was considered a lackluster film that was 'okay' at best. The media and geeks panned it and the film was flat out on the street with weeks. So with that track record, you would think the particular writer would be on hold for any major projects, right?

No, Michael Goldenberg was given the responsibility of putting WW on the screen.

This info hurts, y'all, it really does.

WB/DC Entertainment really need to think about this. The Avengers is kicking ass and scaring other studios to rethink their films and release dates. If you want something on that level, you need to get someone either on or close to that level.

The Avengers or Green Lantern. Think about it... it's no contest.

With the fallout of GL, WB/DC Entertainment is taking a huge risk on using the same folks. I know, I'm really making a lot of assumptions; but this is a big deal. Plus with the string of WW failures, I'd hoped that DC would find someone with the power and skill to bring Diana to the screen. Michael is good, but I'm not convinced he is the best choice.

He's like the 3rd place trophy in a box of 1st placed ribbons. I want a blue ribbon writer for Wonder Woman!

The Bionic Woman Lindsay Wagner gets a Hollywood star

This is really cute. Lindsay Wagner get a Hollywood star at the Palm Springs Walk of Stars, and her good friend Lynda Carter joins her.

It's special to see these two superwomen together.

Interesting Quote: Lynda Carter

Lynda on when she learned she was a gay icon:
It was about 15 years ago. During an interview a journalist said, “You’re such a gay icon!” and I said, “I am? That’s great!” I had no idea until that moment. But as far as being supportive of LGBT equality, I’ve always felt that it shouldn’t even be a question.  It’s a matter of basic civil rights and I don’t understand how anyone can see it differently. I would love to ask some of these homophobic politicians and “religious” people to start talking about their sex lives.  Let’s talk about what kinds of “deviant” things go on there. They really need to get over themselves. I mean, why does anyone care? I really don’t get it.

DC Comics! What in the F**k did you do to Wonder Woman?

After reading Wonder Woman #7, I'm done. I have decided to stop  reading this comic.

The spirit, the history and power that was Diana is gone. In it's place, is a character written by a non-fan, taking a paycheck from a company that would f**k up an icon for nothing.

Since DC Comics revamped their entire comic family, most characters remained close to their original style, however, Wonder Woman got a remake. But not a cute one; an ugly, sour one. DC allowed this mess to ruin one of the top comic book characters of all time.

This is how they did it:
  • They gave her ANOTHER horrid costume change with a choker, pants for 2 minutes and black boots.
  • Her father is Zeus.
  • Themyscira is a wasteland.
  • Diana is a brawler. She always looking for a fight.
  • The Amazons are no longer about peace and enlightenment. They are rapists, child slavers and murderers.
  • Diana is no longer about being good. She's just mad all the time.
She's not even the Diana we knew and love. She's Xena or Red Sonja!

I don't know why DC continues to f**k Diana over. Instead of an amazing amazon, we get some queen of the roller derby. This is not the WW I signed up for. They can take this mess back and give me the ambassador of Themyscira, the Princess of peace... The real Wonder Woman.

Could John Carter's Lynn Collins be Wonder Woman?

I remember watching the horrid Wolverine movie and thinking about the actress, Lynn Collins.

I thought she could be Diana. Now I know I'm not alone. Watch this interview where the actress addressed that issue

What do you think?

Did You Know there was an attempt to make a Wonder Woman TV Show in the 90s?

The numerous attempts of a WW series and movie hurts, but this idea hurt worse. There was an idea to bring Wonder Woman back on TV in the 90s.

SuperHeroMultiverse.com has the scoop

Meanwhile, in 1997–1998, a much-publicized plan to return Wonder Woman to live-action for an NBC series was underway. Deborah Joy Levine, who had successfully developed Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, was brought aboard to oversee the series and write the pilot script. Her version found Prince as a UCLA professor of Greek history.
A nationwide casting call began, with applicants encouraged to show up at certain Warner Bros. stores in December 1997 and January 1998 with photos and acting resumes. Although casting eventually narrowed down to a few Hollywood newcomers, development on the series was shut down before any filming began.
This idea sounds broke. I'm glad it failed. These remixes of WW's origin are pissing me off. Just tell her damn story the way it should be told!

Comic Book Moment: Paradise Island

I found these pics today and I was taken back to the past.

I used to stare at thes pics for hours (maybe not hours, but it felt like it) and think about what Paradise Island would be if it was real.

God, I was such a geek.

Kickstarter Trailer: WONDER WOMEN! The Untold Story of American Superheroines

Here's an interesting documentary about the power and influence of Wonder Woman and the birth of female superhero.
WONDER WOMEN! THE UNTOLD STORY OF AMERICAN SUPERHEROINES traces the fascinating evolution and legacy of Wonder Woman. From the birth of the comic book superheroine in the 1940s, to the blockbusters of today, WONDER WOMEN! looks at how popular representations of powerful women often reflect society’s anxieties about women’s liberation.

To date we've interviewed many articulate and dynamic women such as activists Gloria Steinem and Shelby Knox, actresses Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman) and Lindsay Wagner (The Bionic Woman), and punk rock star Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill & Le Tigre), as well as many others who offer an enlightening and entertaining counterpoint to the male-dominated superhero genre.

WONDER WOMEN! introduces audiences to a cast of fictional and real life superheroines fighting for positive role models for girls, both on screen and off, and reminds us of our common human need for stories that tell us we can all be heroes.
Please check it out and give, if you like:

Angie Bowie: The Wonder Woman that never Was

Angie Bowie (David's ex) was on a comic book roll. She tried the Black Widow route and she tried to be Diana.

A great WW resource, Wonder Woman Museum has the scoop:
Did you know that rock star wife Angela Bowie - also known as "Jipp Jones" - once auditioned for the lead role in Wonder Woman? Although her own reports claim that Lynda Carter got the role, timing and historical fact-checking show that Bowie actually auditioned for the first Wonder Woman telefilm, which starred Cathy Lee Crosby.

Bowie's first public discussion of the
Wonder Woman audition was on The Tonight Show, in an episode originally aired on 11-16-1973, with the guests Dinah Shore, Joan Rivers, Angela Bowie, and Ashley Montagu. According to the official Johnny Carson website, Bowie discussed "Loving America, being the wife of rock star David Bowie, the Royal Wedding being boring, and their Zowie."

In addition to her appearance on
The Tonight Show, Bowie's audition was mentioned in the Feb. 11, 1974 issue of Newsweek, in which it was reported that Angela Bowie had been considered for the role of Wonder Woman for an upcoming ABC-TV movie but lost the part for her refusal to wear a bra. A rock magazine [believed to be Creem] also did a one-page photo spread (seen below).

Miss Angie was a busy heifer back in the 70s.

Could Gina Carano be Wonder Woman?

The action flick, 'Haywire' is coming out next week and the break out star is Gina Carano. Now after seeing the clips, I wondered... Is this Wonder Woman? Could she pull that off?

And I'm not alone, Steven from Collider thinks so too.
There’s no need to keep searching for the right actress, Warner Bros.; Gina Carano is Wonder Woman. While you might think I’m joking around….I’m not. That’s because after watching director Steven Soderbergh’s awesome spy-action pic Haywire twice, I really believe Carano is who you’re looking for. After everyone gets the chance to see her kick ass next week (the pic opens January 20), I’m extremely confident that fandom will agree with me. Hire a new writer to craft a script with Carano in mind; they’ll be inspired. I think one of the reasons Wonder Woman hasn’t come together is you didn’t know who to cast. Thankfully, the search is over.
I need to see this movie to completely co-sign on this notion. Here's the trailer

Diva Moment - Anitra Ford

Who is this woman? Well, this Anitra Ford. But to us geeks, she's Ahnjayla, the renegade Amazon in the (should be) cult classic Wonder Woman pilot/movie (1974).

Her role was small, but she did it! Her look and that hair gave this character life and pure divaness. Below is her big scene, it's in the first half of the clip

Love her!
