House GOP takes DOMA case to the Supreme Court
The crazed House GOP has really gone overboard. These bastards has asked the Supreme Court to review the DOMA case.
Chris Geidner reports:
In a filing obtained by Metro Weekly, BLAG asks the Supreme Court, which must agree to consider the case, to take the appeal for three reasons: (1) the constitutionality of DOMA Section 3 is "an issue of great national importance" and raises separation-of-powers questions; (2) the First Circuit decision conflicts with the Supreme Court's 1972 decision in Baker v. Nelson and other appellate decisions; and (3) the First Circuit "invented a new standard of equal protection review."
In the course of the filing, called a petition for a writ of certiorari, BLAG states that "[t]he executive branch has ... abdicated its traditional role of defending the constitutionality of duly-enacted statutes."
BLAG, which voted 3-2 to defend DOMA in court challenges, is made up of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.). Pelosi and Hoyer have objected to the filings. When will the GOP just stop? If the Supreme Court take this case, this will be on the docket with the Affirmative Action case. What a season that will be.

Church closes due to Pastor's support of Gay Marriage
In Minnesota, Grace Community United Church of Christ faces closure due the its members fleeing the flock. They left because Rev. Oliver White openly supported gay marriage and they couldn't handle it.
Now, he's moving on to a new church.
White's story has attracted national media attention, and he's made several television and radio appearances in recent weeks. He saw an uptick in giving to his campaign to save the church as a result, though it's since tapered off. About half the money has come from donors in Minnesota, while the rest came from people across the United States and even in other countries, he said. This is so sad. These folks are so confused by faith that they are blind and bigoted.
All the attention is unexpected, and White never thought he'd be in such a spot-light after leading the congregation for 22 years: "I never dreamed it'd go as far as it did, but it did."
The small congregation has struggled financially and saw its situation worsen in 2005, when White attended a national UCC assembly in Atlanta and voted with a majority of delegates in favor of a resolution supporting gay marriage. His vote didn't go over well with most of the 320 or so Grace Community members, White said. Now Grace membership is close to 110, he says.
"It was a drastic change," said Frances Goodlow, church council president. "We lost quite a few. They felt it was a religious thing, it was not right. And we felt it's also a religious thing, and it is right. We feel Jesus taught us, instructed us as people ... to love one another as we love ourselves. That's how we felt and that's how we still feel."

New Infogaphic: Preventing the Tragedy of LGBT Youth Homelessness
This was sent by Brian Pesner, the Community Manager for the Master of Social Work program at USC.
Here's the premise
Although homelessness affects many people, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth make up a disproportionate segment of that population. While 1.7 million adolescents experience at least one episode of homelessness a year, between 20-to-40 percent of that population identify as LGBT.
In 2009, President Barack Obama declared June as LGBT Pride Month. The objective of this infographic, created in partnership with the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, Human Rights Campaign and the University of Southern California’s School of Social Work, is to highlight some of the unique challenges that lead to LGBT youth homelessness, in addition to some of the mental health problems that affect the population. While we still have a long way to go, several homelessness non-profits, federal agencies and LGBT advocacy organizations, such as the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and the Human Rights Campaign, are working together to provide solutions to this tragedy.

My Review: Magic Mike
I just saw Magic Mike and y'all... It's hot! But not just hot, it's fun and there's message in all that stripping.
This is the little movie that could and it truly exceeded my expectations. So let me hit y'all up with my review, bullet style of course.
- The movie is very stylish and quick on its feet.
- Channing Tatum... My f-ing God, he is so hot to watch! His dancing was amazing. I could watch him dance for hours.
- This movie put DWPs (Dirty White Boys) back on the map.
- Matt Bomer was adorable.
- Matthew McConaughey looks good in leather pants.
- The story was easy to follow and pretty good.
- Channing was very good as Mike, there was some depth to him.
- Alex Pettyfer had a scene that got me very, um, caught up. He has nice moves.
- The first 15 minutes sold the movie.
- Joe Manganiello showed us why he was called Big Dick Richie.
- Steven Soderbergh did a great job with the look and feel of the film.
- Kathy Griffin was in the audience and she stripped for us.
- Again Channing was so hot.

My Life: The Bathroom
The other day, I was in the bathroom stall at the gym. Suddenly, 'Jump' from the Pointer Sisters came on and I started tapping my foot to the song.
As I reached for the tissue, I noticed a cock poking out from under the stall.
I was SHOCKED! I couldn't believe it, but then it hit me... Foot tapping is a code for understall play. I kindly told him that I was not interested and he had a cute cock. Then, I told him to be careful about hooking up in bathrooms.
I hope he listened.

Lil Romeo can NOT play The Black Panther
We've heard a lot about a possible Black Panther film coming from Marvel. Of course I'm excited, but most of that great feeling died, once I read that Lil Romeo was approached for the role.
According to BlackFilm.com, Romeo Miller said this about the BP role:
I would love to. I remember that before ‘Jumping the Broom’ got released, there were some producers were talking about shopping the script to some people and I was one of the people they contacted and was asked if it was something I would be interested in. You never know. I definitely want to take in and be the next big action hero. That may be something that’s cool.I'm sorry, Romeo, but NO, NO, NO. I'm assuming this idea was from some poo putt studio or he was approached to play another role, but not the Black Panther.
The movie would tank!
Romeo acts, but he doesn't have the acting chops to pull this off. I hope Marvel Studios are not serious considering him for T'Challa. If they are, then this movie is doomed. Get a seasoned actor please. The King of Wakanda deserves better.

Texas Republican Party Platform show No Love to Gays
The Texas GOP has no love for us in their party platform. Here are a couple of pieces:
We affirm that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society and contributes to the breakdown of the family unit. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans.And...
Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable “alternative” lifestyle, in public policy, nor should “family” be redefined to include homosexual “couples.” We believe there should be no granting of special legal entitlements or creation of special status for homosexual behavior, regardless of state of origin. Additionally, we oppose any criminal or civil penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction or belief in traditional values.
Family and Defense of Marriage ― We support the definition of marriage as a God-ordained, legal and moral commitment only between a natural man and a natural woman, which is the foundational unit of a healthy society, and we oppose the assault on marriage by judicial activists. We call on the President and Congress to take immediate action to defend the sanctity of marriage. We are resolute that Congress exercise authority under the United States Constitution, and pass legislation withholding jurisdiction from the Federal Courts in cases involving family law, especially any changes in the definition of marriage. We further call on Congress to pass and the state legislatures to ratify a marriage amendment declaring that marriage in the United States shall consist of and be recognized only as the union of a natural man and a natural woman. Neither the United States nor any state shall recognize or grant to any unmarried person the legal rights or status of a spouse. We oppose the recognition of and granting of benefits to people who represent themselves as domestic partners without being legally married. We advocate the repeal of laws that place an unfair tax burden on families. We call upon Congress to completely remove the marriage penalty in the tax code, whereby a married couple receives a smaller standard deduction than their unmarried counterparts living together. The primary family unit consists of those related by blood, heterosexual marriage, or adoption. The family is responsible for its own welfare, education, moral training, conduct, and property. They have so much love for us
Judicial Activism in Marriage ― We support marriage and oppose the assault on marriage by judicial activists.
Enforcement of the Defense of Marriage Act ― We support the enforcement of the State and Federal Defense of Marriage Act by state and federal officials respectively, and oppose creation, recognition and benefits for partnerships outside of marriage that are being provided by some political subdivisions.

My Life: When Bank of America called...
My bank called about some suspicious activity on my card.
The agent listed charges from 7 For All Mankind, Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, Dairy Queen and J. Crew.
I told her those charges were from me and asked what was the trigger.
She said the charge from Dairy Queen... I almost hung up the phone.

Interesting Quote: Matt Bomer
"Channing told me, 'You have to use the stretcher and just get up on this girl and grind your junk in her face. But this girl was not going to just sit there and be ground upon. She started licking me in all kinds of special places and we just kept going…It was one of those situations where you were in an environment where moral parameters are not the same as they are if you're doing a political drama. You just sort of have to say yes to everything and embrace it."I think we all would, Matt.

Dan Savage's Response to the use of F-Word just got Worse
In a response to GOProud and the use of the F-word, Dan Savage wrote an interesting piece.
Here's the part that baffled the frak out of me.
And "faggot" is a word I've used to describe myself (on MSNBC!), it's a term I've used to describe my husband (in books!), it's a term my friends and I use to describe each other (all the time!). "Faggot" isn't an insult in my book—that's why I had to stick the word "house" in front of it.Really, Dan? This is your answer? If so, this is a horrible response. He doesn't think it's an insult, so he can use this word anytime, all-time.
Well, Dan... There are millions of us who would greatly disagree with you. There are millions of us who remember the first time we heard that word. We remember the impact of the F-word and how deep that word cut when it was hurled at us.
But for you to think of it as a play name amongst friends... That's the insult.
And the fact you head up a national campaign that views the F-word as an insult, that's really screwed up.

Interesting Quote: Joe Manganiello
On playing an Action Star:
"My schedule on 'True Blood' has kept me from the big action movies. There's been serious interest in me for big action pictures, and we can't fit them into my hiatus from the series. I have a contract. I can't walk away from it. And I wouldn't want to. But for a kid who grew up loving action pictures and comic books, that move seems like a no-brainer. Since graduating from a classical theater school, I've consciously tried to turn myself into the kind of adult actor who would make the sort of comic book superhero that I would have wanted to see when I was a kid. I hope that happens, someday. It's just a matter of when it comes up and what it is"

Is Harlem experiencing a new (Gay) Renaissance?
Harlem, NY is becoming gayer according to NY Daily News. More LGBT people of color are finding the historic area to be supportive and welcoming. And during this pride month, folks came out in huge numbers to celebrate.
Here's more:
Harlem does not count the array of gay clubs and bars that have long been a staple of Chelsea and the West Village; there are no establishments that display a rainbow flag in the window. But the number of gay-friendly meeting places has been on the upswing.
Red Rooster Harlem, Corner Social, Lenox Lounge, Melba’s and Billie’s Black, along with Club El Morocco, Picante and others, are all regarded as part of Harlem’s gay nightlife.
Along with the state’s ratification of the Marriage Equality Act, the evolving positions of the NAACP and President Obama have fostered a growing acceptance among members of the black community.
“There is a shift that’s happening,” says Pastor Joseph Tolton, whose Rivers at Rehoboth congregation ministers to hundreds of black gay and lesbian worshippers each week.I have to get back to NYC and see this 'new' Harlem. I'm excited about the direction its going.
“It’s intangible, but it’s just starting to bubble up and coming to the surface . . . you can feel it.”

Supreme Court finds Most of the Arizona's Immigration Law Unconstitutional
The Supreme Court ruled that 3 of the 4 provisions of AZ's SB1070 law was unconstitutional, however they upheld the 'Papers Please' piece of the law.
The parts that were struck down made it a crime for undocumented immigrants seek employment and police to make arrests without a warrant.
While this piece is still there, it faces a lot of lawsuits that can strike it down. This is a good day for the Latino community in Arizona and for our nation. I say good, not great, because the discrimination part of the law still exist.
Hopefully, this will energize the Latino base to continue the fight and end the mess down in Arizona.

My Pride Story
Back in 2004, I marched in the NYC Pride parade. I was a part of the students and staff of Cornell group, there were about 20 of us at the time. Several them wanted to carry signs to express how they were out and proud. I wanted to do something different.
At the time, the media was all over the whole 'DL' thing. JL King went on Oprah and started a firestorm about Black Gay men being on the down low. After that mess, it felt like there was a target on our backs. So, I thought, "Why not change the message?" The night before the march, my best friend and I decided we would carry signs that said: NO DOWN LOW HERE and PROUD BLACK MAN. We were convinced it was the best thing we could do to send a new message out there.
The next day, we were set and ready to go. We took our signs and headed down the avenue. When we were marching, I remember seeing the faces of the Black men in the crowd. They were cheering and supporting us all the way. I was overflowed with so much emotion that it felt like I was flying. My friend was also on a cloud as well.
What we were doing had a powerful effect. Seeing the Black LGBT fam giving us so much love, truly inspired me. In fact, I think it was in that moment I knew I had to do more for our community.
Marching in that parade, made me realized what Pride was all about. It also made me very aware of the job I had to do.
So, at NYC Pride 2004... I became an activist and it's been one hell of a ride.

Ben Cohen will sell Underwear for his StandUp Foundation
Former Rugby star, Ben Cohen has been a great ally for us. His StandUp Foundation is geared to fight bullying, especially towards the LGBT community. But to jazz things up, Ben will launch his own underwear line to promote his foundation.
NYT reports:
Next month, he and his foundation will begin selling a line of athletic-style cotton underwear. Ads will feature him in the briefs, looking freshly muddied from the rugby pitch.I think it's a smart move. He knows his audience. The underwear line might not have the broad appeal of, say, Lance Armstrong’s yellow LiveStrong bracelets, but Mr. Cohen certainly has his fans.“I got paid to wear underwear in the first place,” Mr. Cohen said, referring to an ad campaign 10 years ago for Sloggi, a European underwear brand. It was those images, ricocheting around the Internet, that introduced him to many gay men. Other photos of him shirtless followed, and his gay fan base grew.

Abercombie & Fitch's Jack Off Scandal
I just read an interesting story about an A&F shoot going very, very far. A model named Benjamine Bowers was asked to jack off in front of Brian Hilburn (the modeling agent) to achieve a "relaxed look" at A&F photo shoot.
Well, the model actually stripped down and masturbated on set. When it was done, Hilburn whipped out his cock and talked about their cock sizes. I don't know what was said or done after that moment but Benjamine was shocked and embarrassed. Now he is suing A&F.

Interesting Quote: Brian Brown
But something is wrong when huge companies push gay marriage into children's literature in order to make money. Something is wrong when a comic book store decides to host a wedding, again for commercial purposes. And something is really wrong when a man proposes because, well, somebody else is going to help pay for the wedding and it might mean a cool trip to New York City. He's hating on gays in comics
Somewhere there may be some foolish man and woman getting married in a comic book store. But nobody else is paying for it and nobody in the media is covering it.
Are we really supposed to believe in the "sanctity" of gay comic book weddings?
The promotion of gay marriage continues apace.

Dan Savage and F-Word: The Responses
So I wrote a piece about Dan Savage and his use of the F-word. I had a lot responses via e-mail and Twitter, but a good chunk of them were defending Dan.
I have to say I was shocked, mostly by the reasons they were giving me.
- Some were saying that it was fair because it was a gay man addressing another gay man.
- Or that Dan has done so much for us that he can say whatever he wants.
- And he should go after GOProud, they deserved it.
Well, that's cute, but not good reasons. In fact, they are cheap excuses I have to address.
- I think it's horrible for a gay person to attack another gay person with the F-word. It's done out of anger and it's geared to hurt.
- Dan is not the gay messiah, so stop treating him like one. He's just an outspoken sex columnist. There are far more effective leaders in our community with more accomplishments and less foot-in-mouthritis.
- And this ain't about GOProud. It was interesting to see how folks blamed GOProud on why Dan used the F-word. It's not their fault, it's Dan's. He wasn't thinking and he said something stupid. Pure and simple.
- Stop trying to make Dan the victim, just hold him accountable.
- Defending him opens the door to the Double Standard room. And there's no integrity in the Double Standard room.
