A Man Convicted in the Murder of Marcellus Andrews

A man was finally convicted for the murder of 19-year-old Marcellus Andrews. Marcellus was beaten to death while being taunted by gay slurs in August.

Here is the latest news:

A Black Hawk County jury has convicted a man of voluntary manslaughter in the beating death of a college student in Waterloo.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier  says the jury returned the verdict Friday afternoon in the case against 20-year-old Paris Anding. He was charged in the August beating death of 19-year-old Marcellus Andrews during a fight.
Prosecutors say Anding swung a baseball bat and hit Andrews in the head. The defense claimed Anding was protecting his aunt.
Andrews’ death drew nationwide attention from gay rights activists after witnesses were quoted in local media saying Andrews was taunted with anti-gay slurs. Waterloo police said there was no indication of a hate crime. Andrews’ family and friends downplayed the idea and said he wasn’t gay.
Voluntary manslaughter has a max of 10 years, and there is no minimum. I hope this helps the Andrews family. Paris should pay for this horrible crime.

"Gay is not Okay" Church Sign causes a Facebook Backlash

I got some foolishness to tell y'all about. In Des Moines, Iowa, Rev. Michael Demastus of Fort Des Moines Church of Christ wanted to talk about the gays in a sermon. So to strum up some interest, he put this mess up on his marquee: “Gay is not Okay.”

Then, a gay man saw this and took a picture of the marquee. He placed it on Facebook and it cause a storm of comments. Now, this incident has a Facebook page called,  “People against the bigots at Fort Des Moines Church of Christ.”

Later on, Rev. Demastus took the message down. Maybe next time, he will think before he put up an anti-gay message on the marquee.

National Stonewall Democrats address the Iowa Caucuses

National Stonewall Democrats Executive Director Jerame Davis issued the following statement:
"The Iowa caucuses paint a sad and desperate picture of today's Republican Party.

"Mitt Romney has been running for president for 5 years and yet 75% of Iowa Republicans would like anyone but Romney to be their standard bearer. Last night, Iowa scraped the bottom of the barrel and came up with Santorum - a dyed-in-the-wool culture warrior hell-bent on imposing his warped moral values on the rest of the nation. Of all the clowns in the car, they picked the most virulently homophobic and least qualified of the lot.

"Rick Santorum's political career should have ended when Pennsylvania voters overwhelmingly rejected his unhinged right wing lunacy in 2006.
He will never be the nominee - let alone president - but thanks to the Iowa GOP, we will now be inflicted with a few more weeks of self-righteous sanctimony and rank piety before the Santorum surge finally fizzles.

"Ron Paul's radical following delivered him a solid third place finish proving that a past filled with racist, homophobic, and anti-semitic remarks and crackpot libertarian reductionism is not a barrier to broad support in the GOP. Unfortunately for Romney, that rabid following means Paul will be around to spoil Romney's ascendance for some time to come.

"This circus stands in stark contrast to President Obama's steadfast leadership and drama-free style. If Republicans don't want to find themselves in political Siberia this November, they'd better clean up this mess quickly and start repairing the serious damage this process is doing to their brand."

Question of the Day

                                                                  Who will win Iowa?

Scott Siepker tells us the Real Deal about Iowa in 'Iowa Nice'

This is really cute

Scott Siepker has an agenda for this video:
“The main objective was just to make people laugh,” Siepker, 29, said.
The video, titled “Iowa Nice,” does have more serious purposes as well. Because there is no Democratic challenger for President Barack Obama, a one-sided perspective of Iowans is being highlighted with the national media in town for the first-in-the-nation caucuses, Siepker said.

“The ideal outcome is to get people to know Iowa as it is, and not what you think it is,” said Siepker, whose favorite stereotypes are that Iowans are all just a bunch of hillbillies and that Iowa is where all the potatoes come from.
I like it and I think it gets the point across perfectly.

Newt the Hut tells Gay Iowan: Vote for Obama

Newt is just a mess. He told a gay man from Oskaloosa to vote for Obama if he wants gay rights:

“I asked him if he’s elected, how does he plan to engage gay Americans. How are we to support him? And he told me to support Obama,” said Scott Arnold, an associate professor of writing at William Penn University.”

Arnold, a Democrat, said he came to the event at Smokey Row coffee house with an open mind. But he wanted to ask Gingrich about how he would represent him as president after reading past comments the former U.S. House Speaker as made about gays and lesbians.

“When you ask somebody a question and you expect them to support all Americans and have everyone’s general interest,” Arnold said. “It’s a little bit frustrating and disheartening when you’re told to support the other side. That he doesn’t’ need your support.”
Well don't worry, Scott. We don't need him either.

Newt Leads in Iowa

In a new poll, Newt the Hut leads with Ron Paul in second. Check out the results:
Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich has carved out a clear lead in what’s become a three-candidate race in Iowa, according to The Des Moines Register’s new Iowa Poll.

Texas Rep. Ron Paul has risen into second place, and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has slid to third with just over a month before the Iowa caucuses kick off voting in the presidential nominating process.

Gingrich has support from 25 percent of likely Republican caucusgoers, Paul is at 18 percent and Romney at 16 percent.

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann ties with retired Georgia business executive Herman Cain at 8 percent.
This poll was done before Cain dropped out of the race.

So What does the Iowa GOP’ers think of the GOP Candidates?

In a focus group in Iowa, the GOP folks had these things to say about the candidates.
  • Rick Perry and Herman Cain “are toast in Iowa” – none of the evangelicals in the room had positive thoughts about either.
  • Cain’s campaign is nose-diving here because he’s “shallow” and “incompetent.”
  • These evangelicals like what Newt Gingrich is saying, but they still don’t trust him yet.
  • One reason they’re reconsidering Rick Santorum is his position on the value of life even when the child is conceived in rape or incest.
  • Their biggest concern with Ron Paul is about his foreign policy, but also his call for state’s rights on handling social issues.
  • They don’t care who U.S. Rep. Steve King endorses, or who the Christian advocacy group Family Leader endorses.
So it ain't all about Newt yet. I still think Ron Paul will win Iowa.

The cops in Waterloo, Iowa have arrested a suspect in the murder of Marcellus Andrews:

This is far from over

Iowa Family Policy Center BUSTED for using Taxpayers Money for Hate

The Iowa Family Policy Center used federal grant money to fund their anti-gay marriage campaign.
The $2.2 million received by the Iowa Family Policy Center between 2006 and 2010 helped hundreds of Iowans receive education and counseling, according to the documents. But it also paid for part of the salaries of five employees, rent, telephone, Internet and other expenses while the group was fighting legalized gay marriage in Iowa.

A University of Iowa researcher who was a consultant on the grant also told AP the group declined to provide same-sex couples education and counseling with the money.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services officials approved the grant budget, and there's no indication the costs run afoul of federal guidelines. Still, critics said the grant was potentially troubling because it was involved in a high-profile effort to respond to the Iowa Supreme Court's 2009 ruling legalizing gay marriage at the time, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa is investigating. A public backlash led Iowa voters to oust three justices last year.

The Iowa Family Policy Center and its political and advocacy arms, all housed in the same office as its marriage program, were outspoken on the issue. The center first called for blocking the ruling from taking effect and then called on lawmakers to amend Iowa's constitution to ban same-sex marriage.
This Iowa Family Policy Center is a part of the Family Leader, the group that had the stupid Marriage pledge. I hope this is taken to court. They can't use this money this way.

Marcellus Andrews' Death will NOT be investigated as a Hate Crime

Even with the testimonies of anti-gays slurs being hurled at Marcellus Andrews, the cops will not investigate his murder as a hate crime.

Here's more:

Officials from One Iowa and Iowa Safe Schools denounced the homicide Tuesday as an apparent hate crime. The groups advocate acceptance for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender individuals and work against bullying and hate speech.

“The hurtful rhetoric used was the language of hate,” said Troy Price, executive director of One Iowa. “That kind of derogatory language does not have a place in our state.”
However, authorities don't believe the killing was a hate crime, said Lt. Michael McNamee, Waterloo police spokesman.

“We've done multiple interviews and we have heard those allegations, but this was not because of his persuasion or the perception of his persuasion,” McNamee said. “These were all people who knew each other, and there was some bad blood between the two parties involved.”
This was a hate crime, clear and simple!

Marcellus Richard Andrews was Taunted and Beaten to Death

I hate to close out on a sad note, but I have to post this. Marcellus Richard Andrews was beaten and taunted to death in Waterloo, Iowa.

Here is some more info from a witness:
The two women hadn't made it as far as Adams Street a block away when they heard yelling back at the house. They ran back and found a truck stopped in the street, and the occupants were taunting Andrews, calling him "faggot" and "Mercedes," a feminization of his first name, Simpson said.

The arguing and name calling continued, said Simpson, who admitted throwing the first punch, striking a girl.

"She kept saying it, and I hit her," Simpson said.

From there, the fight was on, with Nakita Wright and the others joining in, according to their account.
At some point during the scuffle, Nakita Wright felt her leg brush against something on the ground. She looked down and saw Andrews.

"I tried to help him up, and then this boy ran back and kicked him in his face," Nakita Wright said.
After the brawl ended, she tried helping Andrews to his feet. He appeared dazed. She grabbed one arm and coaxed him as she lifted. He pushed up with his other arm, but then gave up. Nakita Wright dialed 911.

He was flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment.
And he died there.
Marcellus was going to studying interior design at Hawkeye Community College and was a member of the Crusaders, a drill team.
I can't help but think about where this happened. This horrible incident happened in Iowa, where being gay is hell and folks have no problems spreading their hate around. Less than 2 weeks ago, the GOP candidates were there talking about their views on gay marriage. In some way, that energy and the hatred caused this. I know it.
My heart goes out to family of Marcellus.

Highlights From the Anti-Gay GOP Pledge "The Marriage Vow"

I finally got a chance to read over this caca created by the Hate Group, The Family Leader. It truly has some Foolishness topped with creamed Mess.

Here are some highlights from this document:
  • Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA’s first African-American President. WTF? So we were better as slaves?
  • Earnest, bona fide legal advocacy for the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) at the federal and state levels.15 Steadfast embrace of a federal Marriage Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which protects the definition of marriage as between one man and one woman in all of the United States.
  • Fierce defense of the First Amendment‟s rights of Religious Liberty and Freedom of Speech22, especially against the intolerance of any who would undermine law-abiding American citizens and institutions of faith and conscience for their adherence to, and defense of, faithful heterosexual monogamy.
  • Social protections, especially for women and children, have been evaporating as we have collectively “debased the currency” of marriage. This debasement continues as a function of adultery; “quickie divorce;” physical and verbal spousal abuse; non-committal co-habitation; pervasive infidelity and “unwed cheating” among celebrities, sports figures and politicians; anti-scientific bias which holds, in complete absence of empirical proof, that non-heterosexual inclinations are genetically determined, irresistible and akin to innate traits like race, gender and eye color; as well as anti-scientific bias which holds, against all empirical evidence, that homosexual behavior in particular, and sexual promiscuity in general, optimizes individual or public health.
  • Humane protection of women and the innocent fruit of conjugal intimacy – our next generation of American children – from human trafficking, sexual slavery, seduction into promiscuity, and all forms of pornography and prostitution, infanticide, abortion and other types of coercion or stolen innocence. So good bye X-Tube, Rockettube, It All Gay and XHamster
  • Support for the enactment of safeguards for all married and unmarried U.S. Military and National Guard personnel, especially our combat troops, from inappropriate same-gender or opposite-gender sexual harassment, adultery or intrusively intimate commingling among attracteds (restrooms, showers, barracks, tents, etc.); plus prompt termination of military policymakers who would expose American wives and daughters to rape or sexual harassment, torture, enslavement or sexual leveraging by the enemy in forward combat roles. So those homosexuals are dangerous to the military, got it
They have to be joking, this is a bunch of crap! These are so sad, sad, SAD people.
