A Sketch of the Lesbian Couple Shooter released

A few weeks ago, we heard about the shooting of the teen lesbian couple in Texas. Mollie Olgin died, while Mary Chapa survived.

The cops have been busy gathering info on who possibly attacked the couple. Now with the help of a witness, we have an idea of the attacker. He is described as skinny and in his 20s.

I hope more witnesses come out and help catch this killer.

In South Africa: A Man was Beheaded because of his Sexuality

Sad and horrific news, y'all.

A young man named, Thapelo Makutle, was murdered over the weekend in the Northern Cape. His throat was slashed and then, he was beheaded all because of his sexuality.

Mambaonline.com has more to this story:

His two attackers are believed to have followed him to the room where he lived and on Saturday cut his throat, decapitating him.

They left his body under a blanket as though he were sleeping.

Makutle, who identified as both gay and transgender, was a volunteer for Legbo Northern Cape. He recently participated in the Kimberley Out In Africa Gay and Lesbian Festival, was known as a beauty queen named Queen Bling and was recently crowned Miss Gay Kuruman.

"It's so sad. I can't describe the pain that we are feeling right now," Shaine Griqua, director of Legbo Northern Cape, told Mambaonline. "We have lost a young, talented, gay man who was open about who he was. The last few days have been like a dark cloud."

He said that no arrests have yet been made in connection with the murder. He expressed his frustration with the lack of support for LGBT people in the Northern Cape and noted that hate crimes are on the rise in the province.
I wonder if the LGBT community is in fear of speaking out. This murder has to be investigated or more violence will continue. I hope the community find the strength to stand firm and demand justice for this horrific murder.

Transgender Woman Brandy Martell was Murdered, could be a Hate Crime -VIDEO

We lost another one. Brandy Martell was shot to death a block away from Oakland's City Hall. Her friends believe it was a hate crime.
37-year-old Brandy Martell was sitting behind the wheel of her car around 5:15 a.m. Sunday when one or two men walked up and began a conversation. A witness told ABC7 the conversation was cordial, but then a few minutes later, one of the men became angry and fired into the car right where Martell was sitting.

Until late last year, Martell worked as an outreach worker at the Tri-City Health Center in Fremont which serves the transgender and transsexual community. "When you don't provide a space in society for people who you think are the other or different, especially transgender women, especially transgender women of color, when you don't provide spaces for them to be in a safe environment or a safe space, whether it's socializing or services, this is what happens," Martell's friend Tiffany Woods told ABC 7
Friends gathered on Sunday to remember Brandy.

A Man Convicted in the Murder of Marcellus Andrews

A man was finally convicted for the murder of 19-year-old Marcellus Andrews. Marcellus was beaten to death while being taunted by gay slurs in August.

Here is the latest news:

A Black Hawk County jury has convicted a man of voluntary manslaughter in the beating death of a college student in Waterloo.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier  says the jury returned the verdict Friday afternoon in the case against 20-year-old Paris Anding. He was charged in the August beating death of 19-year-old Marcellus Andrews during a fight.
Prosecutors say Anding swung a baseball bat and hit Andrews in the head. The defense claimed Anding was protecting his aunt.
Andrews’ death drew nationwide attention from gay rights activists after witnesses were quoted in local media saying Andrews was taunted with anti-gay slurs. Waterloo police said there was no indication of a hate crime. Andrews’ family and friends downplayed the idea and said he wasn’t gay.
Voluntary manslaughter has a max of 10 years, and there is no minimum. I hope this helps the Andrews family. Paris should pay for this horrible crime.

The Feds will Investigate Murder of Trayvon Martin

After the outcries of injustice and tons of questions, the feds are getting involved in the Trayvon Martin case.

USA Today reports:
The Justice Department said in a statement late Monday that the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office will join in the agency's investigation.

"The department will conduct a thorough and independent review of all the evidence and take appropriate action at the conclusion of the investigation," the agency said.
The sh*t just got serious and it needs to. The Sanford cops are handling this poorly and their actions are sending a horrible message to the nation. If the Feds finds fault in the Sanford PD, then you know there's going to be smoke in the city.

More to come.

What's Really Going on with Robert Champion's Case?

Robert was killed over 3 months ago and still no one is held accountable, set for trial or identified. So what's really going on with this case?

Here is some insight:
There are dozens of witnesses and possible suspects to be interviewed in Champion's killing, and most of them live outside the Orlando area. Some may not be cooperating.

Also, the case has garnered international attention for revealing the culture of hazing within the famous band, adding greater pressure to make sure there are no holes in the investigation.

Detectives were unable to interview all the witnesses who know what happened on the bus immediately after Champion died because his death wasn't ruled a homicide until a month after he collapsed. They have been trying to recreate the events by interviewing witnesses, often traveling to Tallahassee where FAMU is located.

"It's not like arriving at the scene of a homicide where there has been a shooting and you interview all the witnesses," said Danielle Tavernier, a spokeswoman for the State Attorney's Office. "They have to go out and coordinate with those people who were there that day."

Half a dozen detectives have interviewed or are in the process of interviewing 30 to 35 witnesses, said Ginette Rodriguez, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

"With this amount of people ... three months really isn't a lot of time with an active caseload that these detectives are carrying," Rodriguez said. "We're going to send this over to the state, and of course, they're going to want to make sure that they're presenting a good case. That is basically all it is."
Robert's family is concerned like many of us about this investigation. The longer it takes, the longer Robert's murderers walk free.

CNN talks with the Family of Robert Champion Jr.

To be honest, I am not pleased that his sexuality is NOT mentioned at all! This part of his life can't be ignored. I hope in future interviews, his family discusses his sexuality.

In Detroit: A Burned Body of a Transgender Teen was Found near the Highway

Sorry for the tragic news today, y'all. Earlier, cops found and identified a burnt torso found near I-94.The body belong to a transgender teen:

Henry Hilliard Jr., 19, also known as Shelley or Treasure, was last seen at 1:20 a.m. on Oct. 23 in the 900 block of Longfellow, wearing a silver dress. The 19-year-old had several piercings and tattoos, including one of cherries on the upper right arm.

Chief Investigator Albert Samuels of the Medical Examiner's office was able to connect the cherry tattoo to the information provided by police to make a match, said spokesman Dennis Niemiec.
Police said they're investigating Hilliard's death as a homicide.
Shelley was missing for at least 2 weeks. She was last seen by a cab driver, who spoke about what happened (this was reported a few days ago):
A cab driver that Hilliard often used for rides dropped Hilliard off at a home where three men were waiting for her, his mother, Lyniece Nelson, said today.

But Hilliard immediately called the driver back, voicing concern about the situation, Nelson said.
The driver "started to hear her say, 'What are you doing,' then scream out loud 'No,' then her phone dropped, a few muffling noises, then the phone went dead," Nelson said. "By the time he got back around the corner, there was no one in sight."
I hope the found out who did this to Shelley. To my Trans fam in Detroit, please be careful.

Marcellus Andrews' Death will NOT be investigated as a Hate Crime

Even with the testimonies of anti-gays slurs being hurled at Marcellus Andrews, the cops will not investigate his murder as a hate crime.

Here's more:

Officials from One Iowa and Iowa Safe Schools denounced the homicide Tuesday as an apparent hate crime. The groups advocate acceptance for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender individuals and work against bullying and hate speech.

“The hurtful rhetoric used was the language of hate,” said Troy Price, executive director of One Iowa. “That kind of derogatory language does not have a place in our state.”
However, authorities don't believe the killing was a hate crime, said Lt. Michael McNamee, Waterloo police spokesman.

“We've done multiple interviews and we have heard those allegations, but this was not because of his persuasion or the perception of his persuasion,” McNamee said. “These were all people who knew each other, and there was some bad blood between the two parties involved.”
This was a hate crime, clear and simple!

WATCH: In Mississippi - Teens Murder a Black Man for Fun

This is so shocking and yet, a horrible truth about the power of racism

As the teens were partying and drinking miles away from Jackson that night, in largely white Rankin County, Dedmon told friends they should leave, saying "let's go fuck with some niggers," according to law enforcement officials.

Then, the gang of teens climbed into Dedmon's green truck and a white SUV Cherokee, and drove 16 miles down Interstate 20, to the western edge of Jackson, a predominantly black area.

The teens would have seen Anderson immediately as they exited the highway, as the parking lot where he was standing is just beside the exit ramp.

"This is the first business that you get to coming off the highway and so that was the first person that was out here and vulnerable," said district attorney Smith.

On the videotape, obtained and reviewed by CNN, the group of teens is seen pulling into the parking lot, and stopping where Anderson is standing, though he is just off camera and not visible.

The teens can then be seen going back and forth between their cars and Anderson. Witnesses told law enforcement officials this is when the repeated beatings of Anderson took place.

Dedmon pummeled Anderson repeatedly as he crumpled to the street, according to officials, though this is not visible in the videotape. Finally, after the beating some of the teens left and some got into the green truck.

At this moment on the video, Anderson becomes visible, as he staggered into view and walked towards the headlights of the truck. The truck suddenly surges ahead, running over Anderson, then continuing at high speed away from the scene.

Rev. A.W. Montgomery Sr. from the Agape Missionary Baptist Church is an Asshole

This asshole preacher caused over 100 people to leave the funeral Lashai Mclean, a transgender woman who was shot and killed in D.C. because of his hateful sermon.

Washington Blade reports:
Basically, he said that God let her get killed so that people could get saved,” said D.C. gay activist and comedian Sampson McCormack, who attended the service. “And that came after somebody, I think it was a deacon, said when you live a certain lifestyle this is the consequence you have to pay.”

McCormack and D.C. resident Arriel Horton said they knew Mclean and were among more than 300 people attending her funeral service at Purity Baptist Church near Capitol Hill.

D.C. police said Mclean, 23, was shot near the corner of 61st and Dix Streets, N.E., in a case where investigators have yet to determine a motive and to identify a suspect. Transgender activists say they are concerned that Mclean may have been targeted due to her status as a transgender woman, even though police say they have no immediate evidence to classify the incident as a hate crime.

McCormack and Horton told the Blade that a sermon delivered by Rev. A.W. Montgomery Sr., pastor of Agape Missionary Baptist Church in Suitland, Md., who presided over the funeral service, offended many of those in attendance, including many of Mclean’s transgender friends.

The two also said friends of Mclean became angry when clergy and others speaking at the service referred to Mclean as “he.” McCormack said many in the audience responded by shouting the word “she.”
What? Then when the Blade got a hold of Montgomery, this is what he said:

“My perception of some things is strictly from the perception of the Bible. Sin is sin is sin. I don’t care who you are. There’s no perfect person on this planet. Whether you’re the pope or the poorest person, all of us sin. So my remarks would never be disparaging at all. I preached the Gospel. I don’t think I was harsh.”
It was harsh, hateful and ridiculous. Fam, I urge y'all to contact Rev. A.W. Montgomery and Agape Missionary Baptist Church. That church and A.W. need to know that the sermon was unacceptable.

The Trial of Brandon McInerney Begins

Opening statements starts today for Brandon McInerney's trial. He faces first-degree murder and a possible hate crime for killing 15-year-old Lawrence King.

LA Times reports:

Prosecutor Maeve Fox says she will outline a straightforward case in opening arguments set to begin Tuesday in a Chatsworth courtroom. The Oxnard teenager carefully planned and carried out the Feb. 12, 2008, execution of his eighth-grade classmate, she said. He brought a gun to school, positioned himself directly behind King during a morning computer class and fired twice into the back of the 15-year-old's head.

McInerney then dropped the gun and walked out the door in front of two dozen horrified classmates and a teacher, Fox says.

Prosecutors have added a hate-crime allegation, arguing that McInerney's actions were spurred in part by a hatred of gays, in line with his alleged neo-Nazi sympathies. If convicted, he faces 53 years to life.
This is going to be tough. I'm keep y'all posted as the trial jumps off.

In Mexico: A Gay Activist may have been Assassinated

LGBT Asylum News reports that gay activist Leija Herrera was stoned to death, many believe that it was an act of assassination.

Leija Herrera, was the director of del Centro de Estudios y Proyectos para el Desarrollo Humano Inegral (CEPRODEHI, Center for Studies and Human Development Projects Inegral) and had participated in demonstrations, lobbied for civil unions and reported killings, discrimination and attacks against lesbians, gays and transgender people to the State's Attorney General.

His body was discovered Wednesday 4 May in the centre of the city covered in bruises, apparently caused by stones. Authorities suggested he may have been stoned to death.

Local activists have organised a petition to the State Govenor, Angel Aguirre.

It says that there is a "widespread climate of harassment and criminalization of the work of defenders of human rights in Mexico and the cruelty and brutality of the murder presents evidence of a homophobic hate crime."

The petition demands a prompt, independent, comprehensive, effective and impartial investigation into murder, an end to all forms of harassment against LGBT people and respect for international human rights and the work of advocates in Mexico.

My heart goes on to the family and friends of Leija. The petition is here

Former Marine Convicted for the Murder of IU Professor Don Belton

Yesterday, Ex-marine Michael Griffin was found guilty of murdering IU professor Don Belton.

A Monroe County Circuit Court jury late Thursday found Michael Griffin guilty of murder, deciding that he intended to kill Don Belton when he stabbed him 22 times in December 2009.
The verdict came after about 12 hours of deliberations. The 26-year-old faces 45 to 65 years in prison when sentenced.

Griffin testified Wednesday that he didn't remember stabbing the 53-year-old Belton. Jurors could have convicted him of the lesser voluntary manslaughter if they found the killing was committed in the heat of anger.
This is a sad ending to a horrible situation. I hope that Michael gets some type of help.

Thanks to Topher for the heads up.

IU Professor Don Belton Murder Trial Begins

Back in December 2009, I blogged about the murder of IU professor Don Belton by the hand of his student Michael James Griffin. At the time, Michael showed no remorse and claimed that Don tried to sexually assaulted him. There were no evidence to this claim and Michael was arrested.

Now, his trial is about the start.
The trial of Michael James Griffin, who allegedly murdered English professor Don Belton in December 2009, begins today with jury selection.

Belton, 53, taught creative writing for IU’s English department during the 2008-09 school year. He worked and lived in Philadelphia before coming to Indiana.

Griffin, now 26, graduated from Bloomington High School South before serving in the Marine Corps, where he fought in the battle of Fallujah and earned a purple heart.
Bloomington Police Department arrested Griffin, and he confessed to murdering Belton, according to the police affidavit.

Monroe Circuit Judge Teresa Harper will oversee the trial, which is scheduled to take place every day this week in the Monroe County Justice Building.
I will keep folks updated about this trial.

John Joe Thomas Murdered another Man because the Bible said Gays must be Stoned

This is really disturbing, y'all. Another crazy Christian uses the Bible and gay panic as reasons to kill another man.
A 28-year-old Upper Darby man has been charged with murder after telling police that he stoned a 70-year-old man to death when the man made homosexual advances toward him, authorities say.

John Joe Thomas, 28, of Sunshine Road in Upper Darby, spent almost every day with 70-year-old Murray Seidman at Seidman’s Lansdowne home, police say. Days before Seidman’s body was found on Jan. 12, Thomas allegedly beat Seidman to death with a sock full of rocks.

Thomas told authorities that he read in the Old Testament that homosexuals should be stoned to death. When Seidman allegedly made homosexual advances toward him over a period of time, Thomas said he received a message in his prayers that he must end Seidman’s life, according to court documents.

Police say that Thomas struck Seidman in the head about 10 times with the sock of rocks. Thomas left Seidman dead in his apartment, and then threw his bloody clothing and the bloody sock in a dumpster, according to authorities.
John Joe tried to pass it off as someone else killed Murray. The policed learned that it was John Joe. He is being held with first degree murder charges.

Suspect in the Anthony Collao murder case, Bragged about the incident on Facebook

Arrests are being made due to the horrible death of Anthony Collao; one suspect in particular bragged about the murder on his Facebook! Here's more:

Calvin Pietri, 17, of Woodhaven, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with manslaughter in the weekend beatdown of Anthony Collao, 18.

Police first busted him for a hate crime, but prosecutors later said the bias enhancement was still under review. Pietri was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bail after his arraignment Wednesday night.

The victim was chased from a birthday party in Woodhaven early Saturday. Police said the teen was stomped and beaten with a pipe. Collao, who hoped to one day work in the family ice cream business, died at Jamaica Hospital on Monday.

The other suspects - Alex Velez, 16, and Nolis Ogando, Christopher Lozada and Luis Tabales, all 17 - were arrested shortly after the incident and charged with manslaughter.
I tried to find Calvin's FB, but the statement(s) were removed. I'm hoping to see the statements for myself. The other suspects, as you can see, are kids... Just kids. What is really going on when our kids are acting out this way and possibly ruining their lives forever? This is a lot to take in.

VIDEO: The Vigil for Tyra Trent

A few weeks ago the body of a young Transgendered woman, Tyra Trent, was found in a basement. On Friday, the LGBT community held a vigil for her.

Baltimore Sun reports:
A crowd of about 50 gathered at the corner of North Avenue and Charles Street, braving chilly winds to remember Tyra Trent. Speaking over the din of rush-hour traffic, Webb said: "Our struggle goes on. Let's keep the good fight going."

The vigil was organized by Sandy Rawls, director of Trans-United, which provides help to members of the transgender community.

"We all have our struggles," Rawls said. But, she added, resources are scarce for transgender individuals.

Rawls said she had been working with Trent to formally change her name and obtain her GED.

"Being transgender takes a strong mind, not just to fight society but your own insecurities — a lot want to give up," said Stacy Williams, 35, who knew Trent since she was 15, before she made the "transition," which he said took Trent two or three years.

He said it was a "major step" for Trent to work toward a high school equivalency degree after struggling with drugs — "but she got her life on track," he said.

Williams was among several of Trent's friends who attended the gathering.

"It feels good to see everyone here supporting the same cause," he said.

Two people led songs, but most people remained quiet, clutching small white candles inside Dixie cups.

Trent's mother spoke briefly to the crowd, thanking everyone and asking them to "keep us all in your prayers."
